For more than a century our company has been standing for success in motion.
Whether in the Graf Zeppelin airship, the Daimler-Benz Silver Arrow or the 24-hour race of Le Mans: Motion and developments related to engines, technical springs and many other technical components, are what drives our company every day. The courageous footprints of the legendary company founder Sigmund Scherdel have encouraged many people to join and shape our company in the course of our corporate history. Even today, with the fourth SCHERDELgeneration, the signs are set for success, telling our success story:

1889
Kommerzienrat Sigmund Scherdel founds a wire drawing mill for the production of piano strings in Marktredwitz. The spring steel wire is soon processed into spokes, flexible shafts, tension, compression and torsion springs.

1893
Rudolf Diesel experiments with springs from SCHERDEL on the world’s first diesel engine.
SCHERDEL is developing into one of the most important spring suppliers in the industry.
1902-14
SCHERDEL springs are successfully used in the first road racing cars.
1915
Start-up of the first automatic production lines. The monthly output of a series spring part exceeds 500,000 units for the first time.
1940
The technological advantage secures SCHERDEL a market share of up to 80% for important springs for the aircraft and automotive industry.

1951
Daimler-Benz Arrows, NSU blue Whales, BMW motorcycles and Porsche racing cars achieve their first post-war successes with valve springs from SCHERDEL.
1957
The English company Vanderwell can take part in races with its Vanwell racing cars, which are later to become very well known, only after valve spring fractures can be eliminated through constructive design consultations. Stirling Moss wins the European Grand Prix on Vanwell. Quality products from Marktredwitz gain international recognition.
1961
Walter Bach, a grandson of the company founder, takes over the company management. IIn the newly built Marktredwitz-Leutendorf plant, valve spring production starts for the first time on automatic production lines. The control methods used ensure the high quality standard of series-production to this day.

1966 - 78
Start of production of piston ring expanders. SCHERDEL is still the market leader in this segment today.
SCHERDEL valve springs not only prove their worth on the road, but also on water. Dieter Quester sets three world records for European sport boats on Lake Iseo in northern Italy.
BMW wins with its touring car (valve springs from SCHERDEL) at Le Mans and in the Grand Prix of Touring Cars at the Nürburgring.
The increasing importance of the company’s own tool and machine construction justifies its independendency. The Tooling Division is founded under the name of Comet GmbH, based in Berlin, and the machine construction is founded under the name of AFEMA GmbH, based in Marktredwitz. Production of special springs is started at the Marktredwitz-Friedau plant.

1983
Nelson Piquet wins the Formula 1 World Championship in a Brabham-BMW. The valve springs for the M Power engine come from SCHERDEL.
1985
Start of internationalization.
Shareholdings in the French spring manufacturer Herckelbout-Dawson S.A. and its subsidiary Rhône-Ressorts S.A. and Spires 2000 S.A.R.L..

1989
With the takeover of the company MECO (1988), an efficient tool shop for stamping and bending technology is established at the Waldershof location.
In 1989, a new plant starts production at the Waldershof site in the field of stamping and bending technology. The building with 4500 square meters of floor space is a successful example of contemporary industrial architecture.

1991
Federnwerke Marienberg GmbH is taken over by the SCHERDEL Group. This allows expansion to large springs, stamping parts and seat components.
The company Moltec, the largest spring manufacturer in Portugal, is taken over.

1994
Start-up of modern surface technology installations at the Marktredwitz site with state-of-the-art environmental technologies.
1995
Production start-up at new locations in Slovakia and the Czech Republic to open up Eastern European markets for technical springs and seat spring systems for vehicles.
1996
Joint venture in China for the production of valve springs. Construction of a new plant in Bor, Czech Republic.

1999
Development of spring elements for the fully variable valve train in BMW engines.
Start of series production of compression spring/gas damper systems for innovative trunk lid mechanisms and independently opening trunk lids with temperature compensation.
Start of production of plastic-metal connections for vehicle interiors.
Start-up of the SCHERDEL plant in Muskegon (Michigan), USA.

2000
Start of production in Sorocaba, Brazil.
2001
Expansion of compression spring production at the new plant in Röslau.

2002
Completion of the plant in Myjava, Slovakia.
2003
Joint venture with the Japanese TOGO-Seisakusyo Group.
Foundation of SCHERDEL-TOGO Corporation and TOGO-SCHERDEL GmbH. Production of spring elements for piston rings in Japan and of hose clamps at the location in Marienberg.
New plant in Seifhennersdorf.
2004
Completion of the new plant in Seifhennersdorf and start of series production of dynamically loaded spiral springs for camshaft adjusters.
Acquisition of Reichenbacher GmbH. Under the new name REICHENBACHER HAMUEL, the company from Dörfles-Esbach complements the machine and tool construction division.
New production location in Mexico.
2005
As a continuation of an existing company, welding assemblies and wire bending parts are manufactured in Treuen under the new company name SCHERDEL Schweiß- und Umformtechnik GmbH.
2006
Acquisition of GL-Spezial-Platinen GmbH Chemnitz. This expands the SCHERDEL Group’s manufacturing expertise to fine-blanking parts.
New joint venture in China: Foundation of Anqing SCHERDEL Automotive Parts Co., LTD.

2007
Construction of a new plant in Anqing for Anqing SCHERDEL Automotive Parts Co., LTD.
With valve springs from SCHERDEL, Audi, for the first time with a diesel engine, once again celebrates victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, following on from its racing successes in 2005 and 2006.
2008
Inauguration of the Walter Bach Research and Development Center, which also hosts SCHERDEL SIMENT with numerical simulation and Innotec with product development and prototype shop.

2009
Marcus Bach, great-grandson of the company founder Sigmund Scherdel, joins the SCHERDELGroup as assistant to the General Management.
2010
Completion of the 7th edition of the SCHERDEL Spring Manual in book form.
Opening of the new plant in Kaluga, Russia.

2013
Christian Schiener, Marcus Bach and Maximilian von Waldenfels are responsible from 2013 for the successful future of the company.

2014
New future-oriented markets such as medical technology and e‑mobility are successfully developed.

2014
Our company celebrates its 125-year success story.

2018
Opening of the new Scherdel Huzhou plant in Zhejiang Province, China.

2019
Opening of the SCHERDEL Apprenticeship and Training Center (SCHATZ) in Marktredwitz.
